Energy-Star Efficient Home Built To Stand Out In The Urban Vancouver Setting

Regarded as a modern home, this is one of the three Energy-Star certified houses in . It was the result of the collaboration between architect of LWPAC and builder Martin Warren of  Sustainable Construction Group.

The house replaced a derelict and unlivable house which used to occupy the 66 by 44 foot lot. The design of the building was dictated by the lot which has a larger than average frontage and less than average depth.

As a result, the architect came up with the idea to design the house with a multi-faceted exterior. This allowed him to create a fully flexible space with absolutely no interior load-bearing walls. Thanks to this strategy, the future owner has total freedom to reconfigure the floor plan.

The 2250 square foot single family home has three bedrooms, a garage, a garden suite and a 300 square foot private deck, all organized on three levels. The outdoor lounge area is connected to the open floor plan at the top floor and two seamlessly combine.

The open floor plan includes the kitchen, a small dining area and the living space which opens onto the deck. The geometry of the space is unusual and you can see how the windows and glass walls emphasize the unconventional design.

The overall minimalist interior design is best described in the kitchen where everything is perfectly organized and integrated into the space to take full advantage of the room. The island stands out with its angled design and all the built-ins maintain a very clean and airy look.

The bathroom is a perfect example that showcases the smart use of space and perfect planning. Although the room is not particularly large, it look a lot more spacious. The mirror adds dimension, the glass walls emphasize transparency and the array of colors and materials is perfectly balanced.
